- The document provides background information on a Reebok Edge series cross trainer and discusses redesigning its foot plate linkage.
- It analyzes the existing linkage based on CUTE (Communication, User, Technical, Environmental) values and proposes improvements. This includes making the linkage easier for home users to assemble, reducing parts, and improving aesthetics.
- Two preliminary proposed redesigns are presented, which would be a single or dual-piece molded part replacing the existing multi-piece fabricated and assembled linkage. Possible new materials like polymers are also discussed.
This document summarizes the redesign of a foot plate linkage for a Reebok Edge Series cross trainer. Initial design and finite element analysis identified the need for a stronger, more rigid material than the original acetal. Material selection criteria led to the choice of SPS syndiotactic polystyrene reinforced with 40% glass fiber. Standards for foot plate size, grip design, and load testing were considered. The redesign reduces parts count and weight while allowing classification for both home and commercial use. Further validation through prototyping and testing is proposed.
This report summarizes a simulation study of a production line that assembles wire rope hoists. The production line faces challenges due to make-to-order manufacturing and variability in hoist sizes, designs, and assembly times. Discrete event simulation was used to analyze the complex, stochastic behavior of the system. The study aimed to determine how production capacity could be maximized within the existing space constraints. Various experiments were run to optimize the production line configuration and identify opportunities to increase throughput efficiency through both capital investment and waste reduction. The optimized solutions allowed constraints to be reduced incrementally. With a 10% annual growth rate, the life of the existing production line could be extended to May 2022 if throughput efficiency increased from 5.1%
Asthma is a lung disorder that interferes with breathing. It can appear at any age, but it typically develops during childhood. Those most at risk include people with allergies or a family history of asthma.About 1.4 million patients visit a hospital outpatient department for asthma; almost 1.75 million go to a hospital emergency room. Many people with asthma manage the condition well and can live a healthy and productive life by avoiding triggers and following their allergists instructions. If left unmanaged or misdiagnosed, asthma can be fatal; about 3,300 people die from it annually.
This document summarizes the development of early law through common law and precedent. It discusses some of the earliest legal codes, including the Code of Hammurabi and the Twelve Tables of Roman Law. It then covers the emergence of common law in England following the Norman Conquest, highlighting figures like Ranulf de Glanvill, Magna Carta, and Henry de Bracton. The document also examines precedent, stare decisis, William Blackstone's influence, and sources of law including judicial decisions, legislation, and constitutions. It provides an overview of key portions of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights such as freedoms of religion, speech, and rights for the criminally accused.
Presentation given at EUNIS 2016, Thessalonique, 6-8 June 2016.
We estimate the cost of a MOOC and show that their use in the context of a university cannot be based on financial saving. Savings are possible for massive classes only thus other objectives must be found.

This document discusses how personalization and cross-channel engagement can increase customer satisfaction by delivering the right content through the preferred channels at the right times. It provides examples of companies that used personalization and orchestrated marketing across channels. Marketing automation technology is key to enabling continuous optimization of personalized, cross-channel customer experiences. The conclusion is that customers want the right content, through their preferred channels, at the right times in their customer journey.
This document provides an overview of the history of racial minorities and the law in the United States. It discusses the legal history and treatment of African Americans from slavery through the civil rights era, American Indians from early contact through cultural assimilation policies, Asian Americans including the Chinese Exclusion Act and Japanese internment, Hispanics and the Mexican-American War, and analyzes how far racial equality has progressed. Key cases and laws that impacted minorities are summarized for each group.
This document discusses the function and purpose of law from a sociological perspective. It defines law and examines how culture influences law through elements like beliefs, values, norms, symbols, technology, and language. It outlines theories of prominent legal philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, and Rawls. It also summarizes sociological perspectives on law from theorists like Weber, Durkheim, Marx and Engels. These perspectives view law through either a consensus lens that sees society as cooperative or a conflict lens that sees society as characterized by exploitation and power struggles between groups.
