Parallelogram Story
  By: Rayna Cody
Introduction
Hello! my name is Rayna. I am sixteen years
old and I go to New Heights Academy Charter
School. I am currently taking a geometry class
which is taught by my teacher Ms.Bush. And
the goal of this project is to describe and
explain the characteristics of a rectangle.
Basic Properties
A rectangle has four sides and two pairs have
the same length. And, in order to find the
diagonals of a rectangle, one must use the
Pythagorean theorem.
Specific Properties

A rectangle is a plane figure with four right
angles and congruent diagonals. Also, its
opposite sides are parallel and congruent.
The consecutive angles are supplementary.
The length of opposite sides are equal. And
the diagonals bisect each other.
Comparison
All of the parallelograms are similar to one
another because, each of their angles must
add up to a total of 360°. Therefore each
angle equals 90°. Rectangles opposite sides
are all parallel. Plus, they each have four
sides. In addition to the fact that, they each
are quadrilaterals.

Contrast

This shape is unlike other parallelograms
because this one has adjacent angles that are
equal. A rhombus is a quadrilateral with four
equal sides and a rectangle is a quadrilateral
with four right angles. A rectangle is
especially unlike others because all angles add
up to ninety degrees.
Problem
Francis constructed a rectangular path. The distance
around the rectangular path is 42m. The length of the
path is 3m less than twice the width. Find the length
and width of the path.

Solve
Property
      L=2w-3
2L+2W=42
2(2W-3)+2W=42
4W-6+2W=42
6W=42+6
6W=48    =8
                rectangular path
   6
(W=48 6=8)
W=8 ÷
L=2x8-3
L=16-3=13
L=13

Proof
2x13+2x8=42
26+16=42
42=42

 Examples
Examples of this rectangle in everyday life is
of the rectangle in
real life are a laptop, a Scott Foresman
dictionary, and a McDougal Littell geometry
textbook. These four all have four right
angles, parallel sides, 90° angles. Plus all four
shapes have four sides.

Conclusion

Overall, this project was a learning experience for me. For example I learned
that; in a rectangle there at least have to be two congruent sides, and I
learned that a rectangle is a plane figure, the adjacent angles are equal and
all of the angles added up are 360°. The most surprising thing I found out
during this project was how much each of the parallelograms have in
common. I also enjoyed Photo Story a lot because the special effects are
amazing plus it had many unique components which allowed me to create an
even more interesting story about my shape, it allows me to animate my
work, insert the pictures I needed when necessary and it makes your work
presentable.
