Editor's Notes

  • #3: Needless to say, we are living through pretty interesting times. But the interesting age, ironically sounds a bit dull. I prefer to call it simply The Crazy Age And thats what my session is about today. Its about celebrating the crazy age as a time for companies to break free from the past. To embrace game changing ideas and radical thinking. Because one thing is for sure, if you dont someone else will. Great companies are often born on the back of recessions, Microsoft and Google to name just two. Welcome to the crazy age.
  • #4: So, whats so cool about the Crazy Age? ( black swan is a metaphor ...) 1: Well lets start on a political note. The last CEO of UK plc clocked up a debt mountain of 贈163 billion in a 5 year period. Now we have two CEOs running UK plc ( a game changer in its own right) who have to get to grips to reduce this budget deficit, otherwise are credit rating will be in the toilet. But thats not all: Unemployment is higher today than in 1997, as are taxes. The pound is worth less than 13 years ago, as are many private pension schemes. And personal insolvencies are at record levels . If this was a business, any business, it would be bust. It really is a crazy situation. 2: On a more refreshing note . How is it possible that Cider, a drink for girls and geeks has suddenly become the coolest drink on the planet? Crazy. 3: Last year on the auditions of BGT , Susan Boyle became a global internet sensation overnight. Within 12 days of that audition YouTube had recorded over 100m hits. Today, Subo is a global recording artist and multi-millionaress. Bonkers. 4: How is it possible that our Saturday night TV sees macho Rugby players and sporting legends donning lycra sequined outfits and winning ballroom dancing shows? Crazy. 5: And the crazy age wouldnt be complete without some mention of the social media bandwagon that has rolled into town. The stat that amazes me most here is that last month Facebook took over from Google for having the most internet traffic. Why, because people are no searching for information in new ways. As well as all these crazy things happening. And there are thousands more examples, there are several big themes that make up the crazy age.
