This document provides an outline for writing an essay that compares the representation of women across two music videos. It includes sections for an introduction, introducing the artists and videos, analyzing the mise-en-scene, camerawork, sound, and editing of each video, and a conclusion. The analysis should discuss how each element represents women and compare the similarities and differences between the two videos, drawing on concepts like the male gaze. Captions screenshots from the videos should be included to support the analysis in each section.
The document provides key terms related to film techniques like camera angles, lighting, editing, and sound that can be used to analyze how certain representations are constructed in video content. It also gives sentence starters focused on discussing how different elements signify or reinforce stereotypes related to issues like gender, ideology, and patriarchy.
The document provides tasks and criteria for designing a CD cover. It instructs the reader to brainstorm ideas for an artist/band name, album name, and record label name. It asks them to write a brief paragraph outlining their goals for the project, including representing women in a certain way and communicating messages through stereotypes. It lists success criteria for the CD cover design, such as including the front, back, and spine, representing a female artist, and creating original graphics. It prompts the reader to produce 4 initial ideas for the CD cover design.
A visualisation diagram is a mock-up of an idea using images from the internet to represent the concept without focusing on design details. The document provides instructions for an assignment asking students to choose their best idea and produce two visualisation diagrams showing different versions of that idea to convey a sense of what the final product will look like. Evaluation criteria for a CD cover assignment are also listed, including representing a female artist or band while learning about feminism and stereotypes.
The document summarizes and compares how women are represented in the music videos "The Only Exception" by Paramore and "Salute" by Little Mix. In The Only Exception, women are portrayed as fragile, delicate, emotionally unstable, and reliant on men through the use of soft colors, childlike clothing and behavior, and changing emotions. In contrast, Salute depicts women as authoritative, dominant, powerful, and in control through provocative outfits, aggressive behavior, and dominance over men. Overall, the two videos present very different representations of women.
This document compares how women are represented in the music videos "Living for Love" by Madonna and "Everytime" by Britney Spears. In Madonna's video, women are portrayed as strong, independent, and dominant through techniques like low camera angles, lighting, and powerful sound. Britney Spears' video depicts women as weak, vulnerable, and dependent on men through elements like slow motion, high camera angles, and needing to be rescued. The document analyzes how editing, mise-en-scene, sound, and camerawork in the two videos construct different representations of women.
The two music videos represent women in contrasting ways through their use of mise-en-scene, camerawork, sound, editing, and lyrics. "The Only Exception" portrays women as vulnerable, dependent on relationships, and obsessed with love. "Raise Your Glass" empowers women by depicting them as strong and encouraging diversity and self-acceptance. While the former reinforces stereotypes, the latter challenges norms and spreads a positive message of empowerment.

The document compares and analyzes the film poster and trailer for Jurassic World. Both are meant to generate interest in the film and attract the target audience of fans of the Jurassic Park series, young adults, and teenagers. The poster establishes the adventure and action genre through images of dinosaurs and the protagonist on a motorcycle in danger. The trailer provides glimpses of the plot and thrills through dramatic music and tension-building scenes. Both utilize the recognizable logo and stars like Chris Pratt for brand consistency and to persuade audiences to see the film.
For his A2 coursework, the author created an indie pop music video that used a narrative/performance structure. He applied various narrative theories to his video. Specifically, he applied Allan Rowe's theory of surprising audience expectations through constant movement in the narrative. He also applied Todorov's theory of equilibrium-disequilibrium-new equilibrium by showing the protagonist experiencing a constant journey of positive experiences and new places. Finally, he drew on Roland Barthes' semiotic ideas by using symbols of love and art and cultural references to locations to further the narrative.
Our music video told the story of a girl who eats a magical cupcake that transports her to fantasy worlds as she performs her song "My Head is a Jungle". The narrative paralleled Alice in Wonderland to enhance understanding. It expressed the lyrics through visuals like showing confusion by cutting between scenes during the word "jungle". The video was also fragmented with fast cuts between unexplained scenes like a balloon party and paint fight to create gaps in understanding space and time. It followed Todorov's theory of beginning in equilibrium, disrupting to a blurred overlay, and returning to normality. It also left enigmas like why the transformations occurred to enhance the narrative. Audience feedback found the protagonist relatable and
The document analyzes the film poster and trailer for the romantic drama "The Last Song". It summarizes that the poster establishes the genre through its color scheme, lighting and images which portray themes of romance and relationships. The trailer effectively conveys the genre through its use of shots showing romance and family bonds, as well as music and voiceovers that provide context. Both the poster and trailer utilize techniques like celebrity endorsement, release date promotion and synergy between elements to engage the target audience and promote the film.
This document provides guidance for writing an essay analyzing a media production using key concepts from media theory. It instructs the writer to:
1) Define the key concept and briefly describe their production.
2) State their intention to discuss how they applied narrative theory in their video.
3) Structure the main body into paragraphs analyzing different theories using evidence from their production.
4) Conclude by reflecting on how well they employed the concept and the effectiveness of real media texts and theory in their work.
The document compares the promotional methods of a film poster and trailer for the horror film "The Conjuring". Both the poster and trailer highlight that the film is based on true events and was directed by successful horror directors. The poster provides basic information through visuals like a hanging shadow, while the trailer shows character clips and develops the story more through dialogue and sounds. Both aim to appeal to adult audiences and create intrigue around the haunted house plot, but the trailer allows for more depth and context through audiovisual elements.
The document discusses the four key concepts used to analyze media products: media language, institution, audience, and representation. Media language focuses on how a media product communicates through visual and audio elements. Institution examines who produced the media product and how much money was spent. Audience identifies who the media is targeted towards and how they may respond. Representation analyzes the portrayal of characters in terms of appearance, traits and stereotypes.
This document discusses 7 common advertising techniques used by industries: humor, shock, emotion, demonstration, comparative, celebrity endorsement, and enigma advertising. It provides examples of pros and cons for each technique. The document instructs the reader to create a table with the techniques, pros, and cons, and then find an example advert for each technique to analyze its success.
This document provides an overview of a 2-year media studies course. In the first year, students will analyze print advertisements and design their own ad. They will then compare film promotion methods across media platforms. The second year focuses on creating a 3-minute music video, research folder, and exam. Key concepts covered are media language, institution, audience, and representation. These concepts are applied to analyze and create advertisements. Students participate in an activity called "The Ad Game" that has them design an advert based on assigned people, products, and media outlets.
This document outlines a group task where students will analyze 15 advertisements they found based on Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. It describes Maslow's theory that human behavior is focused on satisfying basic needs. The document then lists the different needs in Maslow's hierarchy - need to survive, feel safe, have affiliation, nurture, achieve attention, have prominence, dominate, and find meaning. It instructs students to discuss in groups of 3 which needs each of their 15 advertisements appeal to and group them accordingly. They will then provide feedback as a group if there is time.
This document discusses key concepts in media language analysis including signs, signifiers, signifieds, denotation, connotation, and anchorage. It provides examples and tasks for students to practice analyzing logos, images, and advertisements using these concepts. Signs in media have signifiers (what the actual sign is) and signifieds (what is meant by the sign). Denotation is describing what is literally seen, while connotation involves inferring meanings and significance. Anchorage provides context that can guide interpretation of images and limit possible meanings.
The document provides an overview of advertising regulation in the UK. It discusses the following key points:
- The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) regulates advertising across all media in the UK and enforces advertising codes to ensure ads are truthful, honest and do not harm or offend.
- UK advertising is self-regulated for non-broadcast media and co-regulated for broadcast media. The advertising industry writes the advertising codes that all advertisers must abide by.
- The ASA handles complaints about misleading, harmful or offensive ads and has powers to enforce actions against advertisers that breach advertising codes. It receives over 30,000 complaints annually, most concerning misleading ads.
- The advertising codes have
The document provides information on conventions of film trailers and storyboards, including typical elements found in trailers such as logos, title, release date, actors names, and music. It then discusses why storyboards are used in pre-production, including helping share the director's vision, making production easier, and saving time and money. The document proceeds to explain storyboard conventions such as including a shot number, edit type, image, dialogue/sound/camera details, timing, and shot type for each frame. It provides examples of completed storyboards and tips for ensuring storyboards meet requirements.
Camera shots and angles are important in film and photography to set mood and atmosphere and direct viewer attention. Different shot types include long shots, close-ups, high and low angle shots, and birds eye views. When taking photos, photographers should fill the frame with their subject, use lighting and composition techniques like the rule of thirds, and consider factors like focal points, backgrounds, and action. Students are tasked with taking photos of an object from different angles, like close-up and extreme close-up, to later edit into a print advertisement.
Audiences are important for media organizations to make profits through advertising or subscriptions. New technologies have impacted traditional media by giving audiences more options to access media in different ways. Media institutions make money through subscription fees or advertising targeting mass audiences or niche groups. Audiences can be passive, directly accepting media messages, or active in interpreting messages in personally meaningful ways based on their needs and experiences.
This document summarizes and describes the color schemes, visual layouts, target audiences, and key details of three albums:

This document discusses several theories related to identity formation and media representations of youth:
- Social Identity Theory explains how people categorize themselves into social groups and align with others based on shared traits, developing a sense of belonging.
- Hegemony describes how the dominant social class makes its values and way of life seem normal and natural to maintain control, using mechanisms like education and media.
- Media representations of youth are often constructed by adults to reflect their own anxieties rather than youth realities, and can influence public perceptions over time through repeated exposure.
- Exaggerating deviant youth behavior can lead to moral panics and further justification of state control over young people.

Chaulukya or Solanki was one of the Rajputs born from Agnikul. In the Vadnagar inscription, the origin of this dynasty is told from Brahma's Chauluk or Kamandalu. They ruled in Gujarat from the latter half of the tenth century to the beginning of the thirteenth century. Their capital was in Anahilwad. It is not certain whether it had any relation with the Chalukya dynasty of the south or not. It is worth mentioning that the name of the dynasty of the south was 'Chaluky' while the dynasty of Gujarat has been called 'Chaulukya'. The rulers of this dynasty were the supporters and patrons of Jainism.

Effective management strategies, such as integrated pest management (IPM), resistant varieties, biological control, and judicious use of chemicals, are essential to mitigate losses and ensure sustainable maize production.

Sustainable Innovation with Immersive LearningLeonel Morgado
油
Prof. Leonel and Prof. Dennis approached educational uses, practices, and strategies of using immersion as a lens to interpret, design, and planning educational activities in a sustainable way. Rather than one-off gimmicks, the intent is to enable instructors (and institutions) to be able to include them in their regular activities, including the ability to evaluate and redesign them.
Immersion as a phenomenon enables interpreting pedagogical activities in a learning-agnostic way: you take a stance on the learning theory to follow, and leverage immersion to envision and guide your practice.
