Podcasting can be used for learning in several ways:
1) Teachers can create podcasts to deliver lesson content for students to access anywhere and anytime, allowing for flexible learning.
2) Students can create their own podcasts to research and present topics, practice speaking and listening skills, and share their work with others.
3) Podcasts created by others can be used as digital learning resources for individual students or whole class activities.
3. Why? Class Radio Show Presenting a Speech Making a Movie Community Podcast Classroom Showcase Show Learning Lesson Study Collaboration Projects
4. Virtual field trips or recorded actual field trips Interviews "Where in the World" Study guides can be created and listened to the night before an exam Instead of the traditional speech unit, students can podcast with music and art, and still talk about the process Create your own "Book Talk Radio Show" using podcasts; weekly reviews on books and authors.
5. Lesson summaries can be helpful for absent students. digital recording on field trips or vacations, add it as narration to photos using Windows Photo Story, and burn it into a DVD. Language teachers can record vocabulary to aid in pronunciation and for test preparation. Math projects , third grade students could produce a weather report of temperatures and/or sunrise and sunset times of those cities being monitored.
6. Create a podcast to present your lesson content, to enable your students to: listen to (or watch) the lesson at their own pace - they can pause, rewind and fast-forward as required adjust your voice to suit their needs, eg. volume control for hearing-impaired students or reduced speed for ESL students fit study into their schedule by multi-tasking, i.e. listening to your podcast while on the bus to school or going for a walk access lesson content if they are absent from class revise material on-demand - just-in-time learning, not just-in-case. use lesson time more productively - instead of note-taking while the content is delivered in class, students use class time to discuss and question the content presented online
7. Support students in creating their own podcasts to allow them to: â—¦ research and present their understandings on a topic orally â—¦ practice their speaking and listening skills â—¦ reflect on the development of their speaking skills over time â—¦ focus on accuracy of information, knowing they are broadcasting to a potentially worldwide audience â—¦ share their understandings and experiences with friends and family â—¦ create lessons to explain concepts to their peers â—¦ exchange information with students at another school, even one on the other side of the world!
