General Jeffery Amherst was in charge of British forces in North America and pursued hostile policies towards Native American tribes, including ending gift-giving practices. This upset many tribes and helped unite them against the British. Chief Pontiac led this rebellion against the British, laying siege to several forts including Fort Detroit, which he gave up after failing to capture it. The British ultimately lost a total of nine forts to Pontiac's Rebellion before replacing General Amherst and negotiating a peace treaty with Chief Pontiac.
