Poodles!!!

By: Ella Templeton
3 sizes of poodles - the
Standard Poodle, the
Miniature Poodle and the
Toy Poodle. The Standard
is the largest and stands
over 15 inches at the top
of the shoulders. The
Miniature is the middle
size and is 10 inches at the
top of the shoulders. Toy
Poodles are under 10
inches and weigh 6 to 8
pounds
One of the more useful
poodle facts is that
Poodles are great pets for
people with allergies
because they do not shed
and are hypoallergenic. In
addition, poodles never
have a doggy odor.
Poodles are one of the
oldest breeds and
carvings of dogs that
resemble Poodles can be
found on Greek and
Roman coins. The breed
was recognized by the
AKC in 1890 and by the
1960s, they were the
most popular breed in
America.
The Pet poodle has been
popular in Russia, France and
Germany since the 1500s and
are even the national dog of
France. In Germany, they
were used for hunting and are
great water retrievers, in fact
the name Poodle comes from
the German Pudel which is
short for Pudelhund meaning
splashing dog. Of the 3
different sizes, the standard
poodle is the oldest.
The Poodles interesting
type of hair, which can
range from course and
wooly to soft and way,
lends it to a variety of
different cuts or clips. We
are all familiar with the
Poodle show clip, but
there is also a puppy clip,
continental clip, English
saddle clip and pet clip.
Poodles hair can also be
corded like a Komondor.
Poodles are people oriented
and eager to please as well as
smart, lively and active. They
make great watch dogs as well
as hunting dogs. However,
you need to keep your poodle
amused because their high
intelligence can cause them to
be bored easily. The Poodle
learns tricks quickly and is one
of the easiest dogs to house
train.
One of the most
impressive Poodle facts is
their lifespan - especially
for the toy poodle that
can live to be 17 years old
if the dog is not
overweight and leads a
healthy lifestyle. The
Miniature Poodles
typically live to about 14
years of age and the
Standard Poodle about 11
and 遜 years.
