Bran is located in central Romania at the meeting point of the Eastern and Southern Carpathian Mountains. It is surrounded by the majestic Bucegi and Piatra Craiului mountain ranges and contains 14 villages, including Bran Castle which has watched over the region for centuries. The area has a rich history, with settlements dating back to Pelasgian tribes and later the Dacians, Romans, Turks, Hungarians, and Germans. It offers beautiful landscapes seemingly painted in paradise, with clear rivers and colorful hills where ancient legends and bits of history can still be discovered among the nature.
2. ? Welcome dear traveller to the lands where the green is more
intense than anywhere else and the sky clearer and closer to
people than anywhere you¡¯ll ever travel to. We have reached Bran,
at the meeting point of the Eastern Carpathians, Southern
Carpathians and the Basin of Transylvania. Here is the heart of
Romania and at the same time one of the most important
historical, cultural and traditional reference points for the
Romanian people. No matter where you might enter this citadel
built by God and offered with plenty of love to people, so that they
could rejoice, you will be welcomed by the solemnity of majestic
mountains providing a dazzling view and beautiful warm people.
The high crests of the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Massifs surround
and guard this region ever since the beginning of time, allowing
flowing valleys to soften the walls of its cauldron up to Turcului
Gorges, where for hundreds of years Bran castle has been watching
quietly over the life of men and nature.
3. Location and surroundings
? 25 kilometers west from Brasov, on the exit road from
the old county of Bartolomeu and which has been
connecting the great city lying at the basis of Mount
Tampa to Campulung Muscel, one can drive through
the villages of Bran which rest quietly alongside the
road. The legends spread in the region mention an old
man named Bran who was master over these lands,
known as the domains of Bran ¨C Moeciu and Fundata ¨C
that he passed over to his 14 sons at the moment of his
death. Hence, the 14 villages which make up Bran at
present: Poarta, Predelut, Simon, Sohodol, Moeciu de
Jos, Moeciu de Sus, Cheia, Zbarcioara, Magura, Pestera,
Fundata, Fundatica, Sirnea and Drumul Carului.
4. History and legends
? Among beautifully colored hills, high mountains and clear
rivers, you will find here bits of history, tradition and
ancient legends. Bran rests quietly at the shade of Bucegi
Mountains, which have been supporting with their solid
stone columns both the earth and the sky. The most
fascinating stories about people who shared a perfect
harmony with the surrounding nature spread all across
these lands. You will be able to quench your thirst with
pure water springing from the deepest fountains, while
your eyes will be bewitched by landscapes which seem to
have been painted under the inspiration of paradise, your
ears will be delighted by the gentle rustling of the grass and
your soul filled with energy and joy.
5. ? Pelasgian tribes have lived here, followed by the Dacians,
the Romans, the Turks, the Hungarians, The Germans and
other peoples. Noble gentry have fallen in love with
Romania and because beauty seems immortal around here.
If you too may be brought about these lands, forever keep
in your heart that which is most beautiful and leave behind
your respect to nature, history and the people and never
move a stone from its place. If you may encounter a flower
on your way, cherish it as you do the green forest; leave
your print onto walls only by the soft touch of your
fingertips and not by the violent trace of your pens. Take
with you the stories and the legends you will surely
discover and then walk further into the world and share
them gladly with the others.
