Procedure text is a piece of writing which is
consists of instruction to follow. It tells how to
do or to make something
Communicative Purpose to tell the steps
in doing or making something in a
sequential order
The example of procedure text : instruction,
manual, recipes
Text organization :
- Aim / goal : tells what will be made or done;
states an opening statement with an objective
- Materials / ingredients (optional) : list the
materials or items needed
- Steps : explains how it needs to be done, provide
a series of steps listed in a logical order
Present tense; i.e. the cake looks delicious
Nouns. i.e. number, scissors, flour etc
Imperative sentences. i.e. follow the steps
Quantifiers. i.e. much, few
Sequence connectors. i.e. first, then, etc
LANGUANGE FEATURES
EXAMPLE
HOW TO MAKE A CUP OF COFFEE
You will need a spoonful of sugar, a teaspoon of coffee,
and some water
a. First, boil some water in the kettle
b. Then, put a teaspoon of coffee into a cup
c. Add a spoonful of sugar
d. Fill in the cup with boiling water
e. Finally, stir the mixture for a few moment and the
coffee is ready to be served
