The document outlines Kerry May's plans to enter the television production industry, specifically in live entertainment. Kerry's desired role is producer but they would start as a production assistant or runner to gain experience. Kerry feels they have the skills needed for these entry-level roles and wants to work in the innovative and growing television market. The document then provides details on the skills and qualifications needed for the industry, as well as opportunities for production assistant roles. Kerry's action plan involves finishing film projects for their show reel, website, business cards, and CV by May to market themselves for jobs in the television industry.
2. JOB ROLES
 Desired role – Live Entertainment (television)
ï‚„ My desired job role would be a producer, however to get to this level I would
have to work my way up. The roles that I can start off in that would lead to
producing would be a production assistant, a runner or a researcher.
ï‚„ Description-
ï‚„ Production Assistant- A production assistant is responsible for the
administration, organisation and secretarial work involved in producing a
television program. Some of the work includes; assisting actors and the crew,
issuing scripts, handling paperwork, organising equipment and supplies and
general tasks.
ï‚„ I understand that I have the required skills for these roles and feel like this is
where my strengths lie. I wish to go into the live entertainment area of television
when I graduate. Although I would consider film, I feel like the television market is
so innovative and popular at the moment, producing many own brand programs
with great success.

4. DESIGN RESEARCH
ï‚„ I have tried to keep my tumblr blog up to date but feel as though I could do
more. However, I have created a website using Wix. I have my own domain
name, which will make it easier for possible employees to find me online. It
previews all of my past films on the website, my LinkedIn profile along with
other media sites. I will later add my finished show reel to my website.
ï‚„ I have chosen a theme for my website which will be evident throughout my
business cards and cv.
5. SHOW REEL RESEARCH
Escape studios, have given tips on getting the
most out of your show reel. The length and
getting the audience’s attention within the first
few seconds is crucial. It is also important to
only include clips from your past films that show
your talents. Although these are the most
important, the different clips all need to flow.
Below is a screenshot from the producers guild
website, outlining the need for a sizzle reel. I
want to include a feel of a sizzle reel in my
show reel, making my style obvious to the
viewer.
6. SHOW REEL DESIGN IDEAS
ï‚„ Here is a storyboard outlining how I aim to layout and edit my
show reel, using clips from my past work.
7. CV DESIGN RESEARCH
 Here are some examples of cv’s from people who have applied for jobs in
the same sector or a similar media sector to me.
I particularly like the
layout of the cv on
the left. The small
graphics are a nice
touch. I like how the
cv on the right has a
creative skillset
section. I also really
like the colour palate
of each cv and as
this is similar to my
website colours it
would fit together
well.
8. CV DESIGN RESEARCH
I like how informal the below cv’s are, it gives a fresh take on cv’s. I feel like this would
catch the eye of a potential employer. I particularly like the cv with the QR code over
the mouth, as it gives a personal touch, showing the employer your face, but also the
chance to show them your filming skills, by attaching a video of your lips to the QR
code. I really like this idea and what to experiment with my own personal
versions/designs of this style.
10. BUSINESS CARD RESEARCH
ï‚„ I already possess a selection of business cards from my committee role
on the University of Portsmouth’s Student Union’s Television. See
example below.
ï‚„ However, I feel as though these business cards are ideal for University
but not ideal for outside work as I want to be represented as my own
entity. I have a few designs at the moment but really want to work on
incorporating my logo.
I really like the
use of the QR
code and linking it
straight to a
personal website.
11. STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
My strengths are;
ï‚„ Production skills
ï‚„ Live television
experience
ï‚„ An eye for detail
ï‚„ Time management
ï‚„ Organisnational skills
ï‚„ Editing skills (shown in
photo to the left)
ï‚„ Working well with a team
ï‚„ Creating innovative
television shows for the
University of Portsmouth
Television Station.
My weaknesses are;
• Limited show reel work,
mainly university projects, no
outside projects
• Limited work experience
• Lack of industry contacts
12. ACTION PLAN
ï‚„ I already have an up to date CV and have made the
changes to it suggested by my tutor. However, I aim to
include my colour scheme and graphic logo to improve the
fluidity of my CV package.
ï‚„ I aim to complete my show reel after I have finished my
current film projects, as I feel that clips of this work will be
my best and add to the overall style of my work. I will do
this after February, as my final hand in is at the end of the
month.
ï‚„ I will record all of my process on my blog with screenshots
of the work I am doing and photos from my social media
sites I am a part of e.g. instagram.
