The student section plays a key role in Purdue football games and generates energy for the crowd. While football is important to Purdue's identity, the student section has its own identity characterized by students standing on their seats and wearing all black for the entire game, unlike non-students who typically sit down. The students in the section help pump up the crowd and send the mascot into the rows of seats to engage with fans.
