How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
Elise Sandwell
During the research and planning stages I used a
number of different programs and websites in
which used an Apple Imac to access all these on.
I used the internet, Vimeo and Youtube for my research on the types of conventions used in
short films. I used youtube and vimeo to find short films in which I analysed to find the
conventions in which I would later add into my short film. I also used youtube to find ideas for
my film and also to research how to create my film in split screen.
I used Microsoft word a lot especially when drafting up my planning before putting my work
only my blog. I also used word for writing up my shooting schedules and writing up my
questionnaire for my audience feedback.
Whilst researching, Google was used a lot and was the most reliable search engine. I used
Google to search for video’s on youtube, look for ideas for my film and to find out different
conventions of a short film to add them into my own.
I used email to ask for planning permissions when filming in the old mill and a beach in wales.
This helped me because I had already planned to film in those locations and by emailing them
this allowed me to plan a filming schedule and to also plan a backup location incase I wasn’t
allowed to film in those location.
Digital SLR camera
All of the footage was shot for my film was on a Digital
SLR camera, because of the camera being good quality, I
was able to film high quality footage for my film. I was
quick to learn the basics of how to operate the camera and
use all of the functions like focus, zoom in and out. I used a
tripod to help my camera to stay still especially when I was
panning. I used an SD card to transfer the footage onto the
Imac and then uploaded them onto final cut pro. By the use
of the SD meant that I could have a backup file incase it
gets deleted on my computer.
During the construction stages of making my
short film I used a lot of different
technologies and equipment.
I used Final Cut Pro to edit and combine my footage for ‘Senecent’. I had
never used this program before but it wasn’t long until I managed to get the
hang of it. After researching and applying common conventions of real
films and by using this editing program it allowed me to create a
professional looking film. By using final cut pro it made it easier when
saving my film as it did so automatically.
I created my film poster on Photoshop, I used the clone tool to create the
main image. I also used photoshop to create my review, I think from using
photoshop to make my a front cover, contents page and double page spread
in AS media really help with creating my film review and allowed me to
make my film look more professional.
In conclusion, my product was enhanced by having access to these
advanced technologies.
