 Sri Lanka separatists
 Rajiv, the assassin and 14 others were killed on
the spot. The assassination was blamed on the
Lankan Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a militant
separatist Sri Lankan group.
 At the time, India had just ended its involvement
through the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF)
in the Sri Lankan Civil War.
 Officers have sought more information from
Malaysia and Sri Lanka after questioning KP. MDMA
officials said KP now runs the North East
Rehabilitation and Development Organisation,
which works for Tamils in Sri Lanka.
 In the aftermath of the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi
in Tamil Nadu in May 1991 there were massive
arrests of Tamils. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil
Eelam (LTTE), a Sri Lanka-based group fighting for
an independent Tamil homeland in Sri Lanka, has
been implicated in the assassination of the former
Indian prime minister .
