Report on Guest Lecture on Architectural Design of Farmhouse on Contour Land by Ar.
Milind Kulkarni
Date: October 17, 2023
"Architectural Design of Farmhouse on Contour Land," delivered by Architect Milind
Kulkarni on October 17, 2023, for the second-year Bachelor of Architecture students.
Guest Speaker: Architect Milind Kulkarni, a renowned architect with expertise in
landscape-sensitive architectural design, was invited to share his valuable insights and
experiences in designing farmhouses on contour lands.
Overview of the Lecture:
1. Introduction to Contour Land Architecture: Ar. Kulkarni commenced the lecture by
providing an overview of the significance of contour lands in architectural design. He
emphasized the importance of understanding the topography of the land and its
integration into the design process.
2. Design Principles and Considerations: The speaker elaborated on the key principles
and considerations when designing a farmhouse on contour land. This included aspects
such as site analysis, sustainability, passive design strategies, and the harmonious
blending of the structure with the natural surroundings.
3. Case Studies: Ar. Kulkarni presented a series of case studies showcasing successful
examples of farmhouses on contour lands. These case studies ranged from small-scale
projects to larger, more intricate designs. The inclusion of real-world examples allowed
students to visualize and comprehend the application of design principles.
4. Site Visit and Analysis: To enhance the practical understanding of the lecture, Ar.
Kulkarni organized a virtual site visit, providing students with the opportunity to analyze
a contour land and identify potential design challenges and opportunities. This hands-
on approach facilitated a deeper understanding of the theoretical concepts discussed.
5. Interactive Design Workshop: The guest speaker conducted an interactive design
workshop where students were encouraged to apply the principles learned to create
preliminary designs for farmhouses on contour lands. This collaborative exercise
fostered creativity and allowed students to receive immediate feedback from Ar.
Kulkarni.
Feedback and Conclusion:
The guest lecture received highly positive feedback from the students, who found Ar.
Milind Kulkarni's presentation both inspiring and informative. His practical insights into
the intricacies of designing on contour lands, coupled with the interactive workshop,
enriched the learning experience of the second-year Bachelor of Architecture students.
In conclusion, the guest lecture on the architectural design of farmhouses on contour
land by Ar. Milind Kulkarni was a success, contributing significantly to the students'
understanding of site-specific design considerations. We extend our gratitude to Ar.
Kulkarni for sharing his expertise, and we look forward to more such enriching sessions
in the future.
