The document summarizes the history and resurgence of radio in India. It discusses how radio began in India in the 1920s with two government-run stations. Private radio stations emerged in the 1990s, with Radio Mirchi being the first private station. Strict government policies, high licensing fees, and new technologies led to a decline. However, radio resurged in the 2000s when the government auctioned over 280 licenses across 91 cities, leading companies like Sun, Adlabs, and HT Music to gain a nationwide presence in India. The government is now planning a third phase of expansion, opening over 700 new stations in smaller towns.
