Nanite is a new way to build scalable backends for web applications using RabbitMQ. It allows services called Nanite agents to advertise themselves and be discovered. Nanite mappers track agents and can dispatch work to them based on factors like load. This provides presence of agents, ability for agents to come and go dynamically, and load-based dispatch. Engine Yard As A Service (EYAAS) aims to abstract infrastructure management and provide a highly automated cloud platform using state-based configuration management. It will initially target Amazon Web Services but also allow deploying to other providers and internal data centers.

From NDC Oslo, 2017. Linux containers run on Linux. Windows containers run on Windows. You can't mix them on a single host, but you can build a cluster of hosts into a single Docker Swarm, using a mixture of Windows and Linux servers. That swarm can run both Windows and Linux containers, and within the swarm all the containers can talk to each other. This session will show you how to make that happen, but more importantly you'll see why it's a such an important capability - one that will change the way you design, build and deliver software. With a hybrid Docker Swarm you can build a distributed solution where you pick the right technology stack for each component, and leverage high-quality open-source applications to minimize the amount of custom software you need to write and maintain.

Project Frankenstein: A multitenant, horizontally scalable Prometheus as a se...Weaveworks

In this talk we'll present a prototype solution for multitenant, horizontally scalable Prometheus as a Service, code name "Project Frankenstein". Frankenstein turns Prometheus architectural assumptions on their head, by marrying the PromQL query engine with a storage layer based on DynamoDB and S3. We have disaggregated the Prometheus binary into a microservices-style architecture, with separate services for distribution, ingest, alerting rules and storage. By designing all these services as fungible replicas, this solution can be scaled out with ease and failure of any individual replica can be dealt with gracefully. This multitenant, scale-out Prometheus service forms a core component of Weave Cloud, a hosted management, monitoring and visualisation platform for cloud native applications. This platform is built from 100% open source components, and we're working with the Prometheus community to contribute all the changes we've made back to Prometheus. Kubernetes vs Dockers Swarm supporting ONAP-OOM on multi-cloud multi-stack environment Description: ONAP was set originally to support multiple container platform and cloud through TOSCA. In R1 ONAP and OOM is dependent completely on Kubernetes. As there are other container platforms such as Docker Swarm that are gaining more wider adoption as a simple alternative to Kubernetes. In addition operator may need the flexibility to choose their own container platform and be open for future platform. We need to weight the alternatives and avoid using package managers as Helm that makes K8s mandatory. The use of TOSCA in conjunction with Kubernetes provides that "happy medium" where on one hand we can leverage Kubernetes to a full extent while at the same time be open to other alternative. In this workshop, we will compare Kubernetes with Docker Swarm and walk through an example of how ONAP can be set to support both platforms using TOSCA.

At the very beggining we explain how we manage until now to come closer to the virtual hardware, removing possible duplication layers, that appear between the hypervisor and the Virtual Machine. An alternative solution removing duplication layers is Unikernels. Having small sized VM including only hypervisor libraries and our application in the same level (kernel), we build a Custom Virtual Machine targeting smaller footprint, reduced latency and better security. Next we explain very fast the OSv unikernel that allow us to compose a linux service built as shared object within the unikernel. Finnally we see a benchmark of a Redis Cluster that is running on OSv unikernels.
