Plants have different parts that each serve important functions. Roots take in water and nutrients from the soil and hold the plant upright, stems carry water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves and flowers, and leaves use sunlight to photosynthesize and produce food for the plant. The rings in a tree trunk indicate how many years it has been growing.
