Setting up a
Business in China:
My Learnings
AMIT HARALALKA
3 MYTHS THAT GOT BUSTED (for me):
1. China does not offer a FRIENDLY
business environment to foreigners
wanting to start businesses
2. You need Relationship (GUANXI)
to get anything done in China
3. It takes DEEP POCKETS & a LONG
TIME to Start Making money
3 THINGS THAT HELPED:
1. You will need Partnerships: CHOOSE
your Partners carefully. Like Marriage!
2. LEARN the Language: It goes a LONG
way in building Relationships
3. Have a cool temperament, and learn
to deal with things that are done
The Chinese Way
Being DIRECT (in Feedback, etc) doesnt always help
That is a very Western Way. Be sensitive, be aware.
Chinese People are among the Hardest Working people
Ive seen. Strong sense of Ownership makes it easier to
get things done!
Dont simply extend your global Culture, and expect
Chinese employees to adapt to it. Rather Take your
Global culture and ADAPT it to your Chinese Team!
MANAGING PEOPLE IN CHINA

YOU!
