Richard Gordon is a pen name used by English surgeon and anaesthetist Gordon Ostlere, who has written numerous novels, screenplays, and popular history accounts dealing with medicine. He is most famous for a long-running series of comic novels about medical students and doctors starting with "Doctor in the House", which was later adapted into a 1954 film. Gordon worked as an anaesthetist at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London.
