Richard Gordon is a pen name used by English surgeon and anaesthetist Gordon Ostlere, who has written numerous novels, screenplays, and popular history accounts dealing with medicine. He is most famous for a long-running series of comic novels about medical students and doctors starting with "Doctor in the House", which was later adapted into a 1954 film. Gordon worked as an anaesthetist at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London.

As Richard Gordon, Ostlere has written numerous novels, screenplays for film and television and accounts of popular history, mostly dealing with the practice of medicine.
He is most famous for a long series of comic novels on a medical theme starting with Doctor in the House
