How many all of you are immigrants?
What part of the world is everyone from?
߀ӛÆ ?

    1960s (Kowloon, HK)

Are your lives better now than they were 30
yrs? 20 yrs ago? 10? How so?
߀ӛÆ ?

Do you ever miss home?

Why did you come to America?
߀ӛÆ ?

How do you measure progress? Wealth? Roads?
Buildings? Financial security?
Lower East Side (Then and Now)

Development has done wonderful
things for the Lower East Side.

But can progress be measured by
just cosmetic changes?
Is this Progress?

Why are Churches thriving in Hong
      Kong but not here?
In Hong Kong, churches,
Christian and Catholic
alike still stand despite
development and
gentrification.

                            However, attendance in
                            Churches, like St.
                            Teresa, has dwindled
                            despite the many
                            positive changes in our
                            community.

We may not have control or a huge influence of development. But we have an
influence on our own family -> Community.

Editor's Notes

  1. I am an immigrant from the DR. My parents came here (__) years ago. My parents came here for.. And as a result of their sacrifice, I am where I am today. In an ideal world, my parents wouldve remained in the Dominican Republic. It is their homeland where they were born and raised. It was their home.
  2. St. Teresa will be celebrating its 150 th anniversary in June 2013. Were hoping to see everyones faces (old and new alike). You were part of the first 150 years and we hope youre part of the next 150 plus years. We wanna thank all the mothers and fathers for being the first pioneers of St. Teresas Chinese Community. Without you, your children and everyone else would not be here today.
  3. The country of my birth is a much different place from when it was 40 years ago. Society is progressing. The standard of living has changed. In other words, the DR is seeing progress.

  5. Tell me about your homeland. Why did you come to America? Did many of you want to leave?
  6. Do you ever miss home?
  7. There have been a lot of changes (then and now). How do you measure progress? Wealth? Roads? Buildings? Financial security? Health? Much has changed. Streets are paved. Structures are taller and modern. Wages are higher.
  8. Lower East Side has the same story. Development has done wonderful things for the Lower East Side.

  11. Why are Churches still around when everything around them has disappeared? Despite all the changes in Hong Kong, why are people still coming to service on Sundays?
  12. Churches, Christian and Catholic alike, still stand despite development and gentrification
  13. There have been changes around St. Teresa in the last 30 yrs. Crime is down. Real estate is up. But why is attendance down?

  22. Come by. Ideally Sunday. But if not, wed love to see more of you in our activities and events, and ParishPay. If not a financial pledge, make a pledge to encourage your families to visit more often.
