extensible API will pay for itself many times over in fostering a community of
plugins. We certainly cannot anticipate the ways in which our users will bend
our modules, but designing an extensible system alleviates the pain. There are
many lessons to be learned from Moose, HTTP::Engine and IM::Engine,
Dist::Zilla, KiokuDB, Fey, and TAEB.
The most important lesson is to decouple the core functionality from the
"fluff" such as sugar and middleware. This forces you to have a solid API that
ordinary users can extend. This also lets users write their own sugar and
middleware. In a tightly-coupled system, there is little hope for
extensibility.
In this talk, you will learn how to make very productive use of Moose's roles
to form the foundation of a pluggable system. Roles provide excellent means of
code reuse and safe composition. I will also demonstrate how to use

This presentation is a whirlwind tour of the Solar framework for PHP 5. After a short bit of background, the presentation will outline the major concepts in Solar: everything is a library, the unified constructor, unified configuration, inherited configuration and localization, unified factory and adapter systems, lazy-loading registry, and the dependency-injection system. Next is an overview of how the dynamic dispatch cycle works in Solar, and how it compares to other framework dispatch cycles. From there we will move on to the SQL system, including the MysqlReplicated adapter, and lead into the ORM system. The ORM overview will briefly cover models, collections, records, automated filters, automated form generation, and more. We have successfully established our development process for Drupal custom modules, including automated testing using PHPUnit, all managed through our own GitLab CI/CD pipeline. This setup mirrors the automated testing process used by Drupal.org, which was our goal to emulate.
Building on this success, we have taken the next step by learning Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) using Behat. This approach allows us to automate the execution of acceptance tests for our Cloud Orchestration modules. Our upcoming session will provide a thorough explanation of the practical application of Behat, demonstrating how to effectively use this tool to write and execute comprehensive test scenarios.
