The second lecture in Dr. Ryan Jouett's lecture series on the Creation Issue, called "Biblical Authority and Creation," deals with why we can trust the Bible and it's authority in our life as well as how the Bible is consistent about a literal six day creation.

Editor's Notes
#2: Who I am and What I do
I train YL leaders for the Brazos Valley and disciple college kids in our church, I have seen multiple kids falter in their faith because their parents tell them for years to sit in class and listen to their teachers and do what they say and they hear about evolution and quickly figure out that the two cannot work together its the inescapable truth. Something is either true or it isnt.
I READ THE PRIMARY RESEARCH AND CITE EVERYTHING
Dont want to argue
I dont have time to answer a ton of emails
#3: Great Book for Kids and dinnertime
Im going to let you in on a secret -
#4: If you click on Answers, then Online Books,
then look for The Answers Book for Kids: Vol1, 2
Each one gives you about 20 dinnertime conversations
Click on the first one When did time begin?
#5: If you click on Answers, then Online Books,
then look for The Answers Book for Kids: Vol1, 2
#6: There are a ton of good questions for you to go through
Did Adam and Eve have a belly button?
Why dont snakes talk?
How long did it take Adam to name the animals?
When did Adam and Eve rebel?
#7: If need be, you can go directly to the website where they have the scripture lined out for you
#11: Correct with gentleness
Be consistent, prepared to give an answer, do it with respect and love, and do it with the goal, not to be right, but that they might come to Christ.
Lets remind ourselves why this is important
#12: 1:01
Richard Dawkins Highlights the difference
Really what is the crazy thing to believe That Jesus Died for us, or that God created the world? That is exactly the point that the atheist Richard Dawkins makes for us
#13: If we can only believe one, just how reliable is the Bible anyway?
#14: Heb Bib same exc for addition of vowel pointings, reading aids and open form of letters
So, though their eyes may be blind to the truth, they have guarded its transmission with great accuracy
The earliest Masoretic text is from 900AD CLICK
#15: That is 900 years after the birth of Christ
That is why the dead sea scrolls were so important CLICK
Discovered in 1947 CLICK
How does that compare to other ancient texts??? CLICK
#16: Illiad by Homer:
-400 years between fragments
-1800 years difference between the author and manuscript
History of Thew-SIE-di-DEES and Herodotus are separated by 500y
How does that compare to the New Testament?
#17: Some of those Gk MSS you can view online including the oldest known complete bible from 325 AD the codex sinaiticus which includes the Septuagint
#18: Let me emphasize this
NT existed for 1900y, 1500y written by hand
Yet only 12-20 significant textual variations and none affect doctrine
1/1000th a part of the whole little more than 遜 page
Shakespeare, around for 400y and since the invent. of print press
Every one of the 37 plays has about 100 readings still in dispute that affect the meaning of the passages
This is a book by which we can live and die.
#19: So who wrote the first five books of the old testament, including Genesis?
Let me give you a hint CLICK
How do we know that? Because the Bible says so.
#22: More than 30 times in fact, the Bible tells us who wrote the first five books.
The NT attributes all the books from Genesis through Deuteronomy as being the writings of Moses.
To attack the Mosaic authorship of the 1st 5 books of OT is to attack the truthfulness of the rest of the Bible and Jesus Himself.
For those of you that dont want to believe the bible.
#23: But how did Moses get so specific, particularly with geneologies?
The answer is he probably had other texts from which to draw fromCLICK
#24: (also Gen 2:4; 6:9; 10:1; 11:10; 11:27; 25:12; 25:19; 36:1; 36:9; 37:2)
11 times the Hebrew word toledoth is used meaning this is the account or these are the generations
Likewise Gen 6:9 reads like a ships log
So knowing its reliability as Gods word, lets look at CLICK
#25: how it can speak into our lives as an authority from God
Two main authorities in your life as a Christian
We are going to focus today on the Bible because that is where Satans attack is today
I think we can agree Jesus thought the Bible was a big deal
#26: Being quizzed on resurrection by sadduccees
Bible is so accurate Jesus built an argument on a verb tense
I am = eimi
Present Active Verb
Ex 3:6
Summarized: I, God, am currently the God of Abraham because Im standing here with him, and I always will be, because Im eternal
Paul thought it pretty literal too
#27: Paul
Referencing Genesis 13:15, 17:8, 22:18
all singular (seed)
All in Genesis
But what about believing the numbers given?? Because many of the arguments wayward Christians use is that you cant really trust the numbering given in Genesis.
Lets look at the very next verse
#28: Paul again references Genesis (Gen 15:13; Ex 12:40)
Paul obviously belieives the Bible is reliable, even when it uses numbers and dates
What do you say to a Christian friend who.
#29: What do you say to your Christian friend who says the bible cant be trusted because it was written by a bunch of sheep hearders?
HS inspired bible
Man alone didnt write it, but God used men and spoke through them we see their personalities in the writings
Why are we spending so much time on the bible?
#30: Only the Bible can cut to the heart
Science books, lessons and theories cant only Gods word
THATS WHY WE CANT LEAVE THE BIBLE OUT OF THE DISCUSSION
Jesus says inCLICK
#31: Jesus says: Youll believe anybody but God. You say you follow Moses, but you dont. You say that you believe in the writings of Moses, but Moses wrote about Me and you dont believe him, how can you believe My words?
OK so the bible is reliable CLICK
#32: and it has authority in our lives, and Jesus thought it was incredibly accurate
What does it say about a literal 6 day creation? (outside Gen 1-11)
#33: Pharisees testing Jesus ask Him about divorce, He goes directly to Genesis quotes it as of it is real
JESUS quoting Genesis says that Adam and Eve who were literal existed from the beginning.
#34: Jesus talking about the end times He says there will such a great tribulation that has never happened not since God created the world or ever
#35: Jesus speaking to a crowd of Pharisees with a few lawyers in the mix dont you know the low lives always hang around each other
Puts the historical Abel (Adams son) who was stoned to death by Cain in Gen 4:8 to the historical Zechariah who was stoned to death in the temple in 2 Chronicles 24:20-21
Validates historical facts in Genesis 4
With historical facts in 2 Chronicles 24
CLICK
#36: Without getting too much into it
Septuagint while it had the same content was organized differently
It was Organized CLICK
#37: Jesus is speaking about a historical moment
Word flood is kataklysmos
Jesus is using a literal event in the past to foreshadow a literal event in the future
If the global flood didnt really happen, then Jesus isnt coming back
IN fact, Jesus quoted the old testament as history throughout his ministryCLICK
#38: Jn 3:14 so shall the Son of Man be lifted up so that whoever believes will have eternal life
Jn 6:32 God gave the bread from heaven that gives life and I am the Bread of life, he who comes to me will not hunger
Luke 17:28 fire and brimstone 32- remember Lots wife it was a true account
Matt 10:15 easier on S&G than on the city that rejects the word
#39: Lk 4:25 - affirms the miracles of Elijah
Matt 12:40 Jonah was 3 days in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth
JESUS USES GENESIS AND THE OT HIS ENTIRE MINISTRY AS IF IT WERE HISTORY
Jesus took it as straightforward HISTORY
Jesus used the OT to teach His disciples that the events of His death, burial, Resurrection, and Second Coming
#40: Included Adam in a list of real people in the lineage of Jesus
Matthew, written for Jews, takes the lineage back to Abraham. Luke, written for Gentiles, takes it back to Adam for the beginning of the human race
Jude 14 confirms this says that Enoch was in the 7th Generation from Adam
#41: Paul equated Jesus to Adam in his sinless state
Who was the first perfect man? - Adam
Remember, we were born in sin: Ps 51:5 I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.
Adam was created perfect and failed Jesus did it right
IF ITS NOT A LITERAL ADAM THE ARGUMENT IS USELESS
#42: Paul speaks of a literal Adam
Argument makes no sense without a REAL Adam
#43: If there wasnt a literal Adam and creation, this argument is null and void.
But this next verse is what completely blindsided me and stopped me in my tracks CLICK

IN YEAR 41 PAUL WAS CAUGHT UP INTO PARADISE AND HEARD INEXPRESSIBLE WORDS THAT NO MAN COULD REPEAT
22 years after Paul is with God he still believes in a literal Genesis
#46: 1. You either believe in Gods word or mans word
2. When mans truth builds the foundation for a society, that society can be summed up by the last verse in Judges
3. If you dont want moral relativism for your kids show them Gods word is true, right and correct and you have to live it
#47: In 2012, researchers found and published a therapod called Sin-uh-cally-opterix in Liaoning, China that was so well preserved they were able to make out the contents of its intact stomach birds.
In fact, they found two Cornifuciusornithids, one had recently been eaten, the other had been in there a little bit longer.
But that wasnt all, upon further inspection, they found a third bird in a more advanced state of digestion.
#48: In 2012, researchers found and published that they found a therapod called Sinacalliopteryx in Liaoning, China that was so well preserved they were able to make out the contents of its intact stomach birds.

#49: Here is their depiction of the birds being eaten
This is an artists depiction they have no basis for the hair but they want you to think its an evolutionary step.
#50: This is what the bird would have looked like we see these all over the fossil record
#51: And they are always layed flat between two layers of mud sediment and squished flat
#53: Pray over the next few weeks that
God will show us where we have hardened our hearts to Him
That He would show us what to believe
Have the courage to take Gods truth over mans truth
