The Inca Empire spanned 2500 miles in the Andes Mountains from the 1400s to 1532. Ruled by an absolute emperor who was seen as the son of the sun, the Incas had a strong centralized government where all spoke Quechua and followed the state religion. Their capital was Cuzco, and sites like Machu Picchu showed their advanced architecture, terracing, and road systems. However, in 1532 the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizzaro destroyed the empire, capturing and killing Emperor Atahualpa, ending Incan rule.
