A tooth is a hard structure found in the jaws of many vertebrates that is used to break down food. Teeth generally have three parts - the crown, neck, and root. They also have four sections - enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulp. Teeth help with chewing, speech, facial appearance, protection, and jaw development. Humans have two sets of teeth - 20 deciduous (baby) teeth that start erupting at 6 months and are replaced by 32 permanent teeth starting at age 6.
