This document discusses different types of communication based on style, expression, and direction. There are formal and informal styles of communication based on use of language and structure. Expression can be verbal either written or oral, or nonverbal using symbols and colors. Direction of communication can be upward from lower to higher levels, downward from higher to lower levels, or horizontal between peers. Oral communication is quick but lacks permanence while written is permanent but slower. Upward communication involves requests while downward involves orders and directives.
