This document summarizes an app called UMD on Facebook that was developed to help improve social integration and enjoyment of the university experience for students at the University of Maryland (UMD). It discusses how the app provides a private online space for UMD students and staff to connect based on shared interests. Statistics are provided on usage which showed over 1,700 new students joined and topics of early posts focused on roommate matching, classes, and events. The impact is said to be improved quality of student relationships and satisfaction with their peers and experience at UMD through connecting them before and during their time on campus.
