Virtual reality is becoming an increasingly sedentary alternative to experiencing nature directly. While virtual reality allows us to interact with simulated environments safely from home, overreliance on it can lead to obesity, diabetes, and weakening of muscles and social lives. If virtual reality becomes more desirable to people than direct experiences in nature, it could have serious consequences like reducing support for conservation efforts and damaging children's development. Studies show participation in outdoor activities is already on the decline.
2. virtual reality
Virtual reality is not limited just to a computer-generated
environment where participants wear special headsets and other
gear that allows them to interact with virtual situations.
Nature shows on television are enjoyed from the comfort of our
living rooms there are no biting mosquitoes and gnats, and we
dont get hot and sweaty hiking for miles, or dunked in icy streams.
3. Problem
The sedentary lifestyle leads :
1. Obesity
2. Diabetes
3. Deteriorating muscles and social lives
people who have a sedentary lifestyle had a 46 percent higher risk
of death from all causes over people living a more active lifestyle.
4. What happen when virtual reality becomes more desirable than
experiencing nature ?!
Declining nature participation has crucial implications for current
conservation efforts
will greatly reduce the value people place on biodiversity
conservation.
the shift from outdoor activities particularly damaging to children.
