ABSTRACT “ The role of Intercultural pedagogy, in the development of democratic culture : a key component for
students well being
The development of intercultural and democratic school culture requires for educators to value human dignity, human
rights and acknowledge cultural diversity as an asset. Ensuring thus intercultural dialogue and developing a shared
sense of belonging requires from both teachers and students to be open to cultural otherness and to other beliefs,
world views and practices. They also need to be respectful and to develop autonomous learning skills, analytical and
critical thinking skills, including co-operation, conflict-resolution and other related skills; develop knowledge and
critical understanding of the self, Intercultural pedagogy can play a key role in the enhancement of school’s
democratic culture providing young learners with an opportunity to intercultural dialogue and the development of
critical understanding of the world. Intercultural pedagogy highlights the role cultural plays in students’ identity
development as much as in their participation and socialization to a specific community group. Students’ well-being
depends very much on teachers’ capacity to create an inclusive and intercultural environment for all students.
Students need to feel safe, valued and respected to be actively and meaningfully engaged academic and social context-
Intercultural education and pedagogy provides teachers with tools to foster students’ well-being and promote
intercultural dialogue and understanding in school’s context. The keynote will analyze different intercultural
education pedagogic approaches can contribute to the development of intercultural and democratic competences in
your learners as much as it will demonstrate the alignment with the CoE RFCDC

BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Tamar Shuali Trachtenberg is a professor at the Faculty of Teaching and Education Sciences of the Catholic
University of Valencia (UCV), Director of the European Institute of Education for Democratic Culture and the
Coordinator of the research strand “EU values and the Mediterranean dialogue at the same institution. She obtained
her doctorate title in Pedagogy from the University of Valencia and is an international consultant in the field of
intercultural education and teacher training. Dr. Shuali collaborates with the EU Commission the CoE Educational
Policy Department and the North-South Centre. She is a board member of the Spanish Society of Comparative and the
Co-director of the Simone Veil Chair for the Prevention of Racism, Antisemitism and the Promotion of
Interculturality at the Complutense University of Madrid. Her research interests are the development of intercultural
and democratic competencies in teachers, the promotion of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, European values,
and the development of European citizenship.

• Title: “Improving Well-being in Schools: Strategies for Teachers “ - Barbara Chyłka basiachylka@gmail.com - has 18 years'
experience as a teacher of German language, as well as religion and history. She is also a certified educational trainer,
occupational therapist, and social skills training therapist. Currently is active in non-formal education. She works for a non-
governmental organisation, she is involved in voluntary work. She is also co-author of curricula for teaching German as a
national minority language and numerous publications. She conducts educational workshops for pupils, students, teachers,
and people not involved in education. Co-author of workbook for 7 and 8 grades in the German language. Member of the
Polish Superbelfrzy group and president of the Polish Association of German Language Teachers Opole Branch. Coordinator
of the ‘Young Heads’ project on mental health in the Opole Voivodeship. She loves new technologies and social activities.
Always an inspiring and sometimes inspiring leader. Passionate about social action and education, constantly hoping to be the
one to change the world.
Description: This 90-minute workshop, titled "Improving Well-being in Schools: Strategies for Teachers," provides educators with
practical tools to enhance the well-being of students and teachers. Through interactive activities such as the World Café,
mindfulness exercises, and group discussions, participants will explore effective strategies for creating a supportive and thriving
school environment.

Description: This workshop focuses on the critical issue of disinformation and its widespread effects on society. Participants will
delve into the origins and strategies behind disinformation campaigns, learning how these influence public opinion and decision-
making. The workshop will emphasize the importance of media literacy as a defense against misinformation, providing tools and
techniques to critically evaluate sources and content. Through discussions, real-world examples, and hands-on activities, attendees
will gain the skills needed to distinguish between credible information and misleading content, empowering them to be more
