? The introduction to drug psychoactive substances such as tobacco, alcohol
and cannabis at an early age can foster usage and consumption, and indeed
addiction in adulthood, and lead to behaviors putting one¡¯s health at risk.
Such substance can affect motivation and academic performance and lead to
dropping out of school.
What is Alcohol?
Alcohol is recreational drug that has short term that and long term effects on
the body.
Alcohol is a depressant that works by slowing down the nervous system and
relaxing the brain it can reach the brain in 1 minute.
What is Drug?
? A drug is any substances that changes the way of the body or mind works.
? Drugs are substances that have effects on the body.
Age of first use of Drug and alcohol
? 7% of 12-17 years old, 13% of 18-25 years old, and 4% of persons age 26 or
older, used prescription drugs nomadically in the past decade in Bangladesh.
? Young people who persistently abuse substances often experience an array
of problems including academic difficulties, health related problems, poor
peer relationships, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
Drug and Alcohol Influences
? Drug-addiction started mainly through association with the drug addicts. Without knowing
the harmful aspects of drugs, teens get intoxicants in the wake of temporary tension and
instigation of friends. As a result, many people started taking drugs despite curiosity. Child
and adolescents often meet their curiosity by stole biri-cigarettes from parents or other
adult pockets. This curiosity has once again been the habit of smoking. After this smoking,
they became addicted to other drugs such as marijuana, phensedyl, heroin and yaba. Many
people feel frustrated due to unemployment, loneliness, death of loved ones, failure in love,
family turbulence etc. and many people accept drug addiction in the hope of getting rid of
these frustrations. Apart from this, the deprivation of parents and the effects of non-
reproduction are also a major cause. 'Do not blame the drug' - this must be done by creating
awareness among the people, particularly the young people.
Statistics of Drug and Alcohol
? Among Bangladeshis 15 years and older, 78% consumed some alcohol.
? The age of 15 to 29 years old was Bangladeshis most unhealthy drinkers.
Statistics of Marijuana
? Bangladeshis is the most commonly used illegal drug in Bangladesh and
worldwide.
? The use of marijuana is generally more prevalent among youth, with
approximately 35.1% of 15 to 24 year olds reporting use of the drug during
the past year compared.
