The University of Canberra received a $7.2 million grant to establish the INSPIRE Centre, a centre for research and development on innovative applications of information and communications technologies (ICT) in education. INSPIRE will focus on good pedagogical practices using ICT to enhance student learning outcomes and will inform professional learning programs for teachers. The building was designed to stimulate creativity, make technology visible, and support collaboration and flexibility.
This document proposes an ecological learning design framework. It begins by discussing existing frameworks around knowledge ecologies and their focus on information, meanings, networks, and connections. However, these frameworks do not clearly explain how ecology functions. The document then elaborates on deepening the ecological approach to emphasize the central role of activities in knowledge ecologies. It proposes components for a learning ecology framework, including that knowledge is distributed and inheres in social practices and relationships between people, tools, and environments involved in activities. Networks are interpreted as dynamically evolving activity systems.

Increasingly, designers are being asked to apply their skills and talents to achieve a 'behaviour-change' objective. Why is this happening? What do designers know and do that makes them specially competent for such tasks? This presentation aims at holding up a mirror to practitioners and hopefully showing them a way ahead to equip themselves even better for next-generation challenges.
Please do see the NOTES section for my accompanying commentary.

This document provides instructions for installing and using the OverDrive Media Console (OMC) software to download MP3 audiobooks from a library's digital collection to a Mac computer. It outlines downloading and installing the OMC software, logging into the library's digital collection through the NHDB website, finding and checking out compatible MP3 audiobooks, downloading titles to the OMC, and transferring audiobooks to an iPod for listening. Additional tips are provided for adjusting audiobook file settings in iTunes to enable resume playback functionality. Help resources like the library and NHDB blog are also mentioned.
This document discusses creating virtual exhibits on a small budget. It recommends starting with a focused collection and selecting free and easy to use platforms like Flickr, Blogger, or WordPress.com that require little technical skills or staffing. Free software options exist but may require more ongoing costs and technical expertise to maintain than hosted sites. Even with limited resources, small organizations can digitize select items, add basic metadata, and share their collections online to bring history to broader audiences while protecting physical materials.
The document summarizes discussions from two interviews conducted as part of an HEA research project on OER. Key points from the interviews include barriers to open practices like lack of recognition and policies not aligned with open values. Suggested ways forward include updating policies to incentivize openness, highlighting benefits to different roles, and encouraging personal profiles that showcase open contributions. The interviews also discussed assumptions around OER, communities developing around open subjects, and changing academic culture to better support open pedagogy.

The document provides guidance for students preparing for a higher geography exam question on biospheres that will focus on either soils or sand dunes. It discusses key themes and processes related to different soil types like podsols and brown earths. It also outlines the concepts of plant succession and climax vegetation in relation to sand dunes, and provides examples of pioneer plants found in different areas of sand dunes and why they grow there. The document aims to help students understand what may be asked and how to structure their answers for the biosphere question.
Fab Labs are a global network of local labs that provide access to digital fabrication tools like 3D printers and laser cutters. They are open community spaces available to individuals and groups for designing and prototyping projects. Fab Labs are run by a variety of organizations like universities and non-profits. They adhere to a charter that prohibits weaponry and commercial replication. The document provides answers to frequently asked questions about what Fab Labs are, who uses them, where they are located, and what tools and activities they offer.
- Wookie is an open source widget engine that was accepted into the Apache incubator in July 2009 to help build a developer community around the project.
- For an open source project to be viable and sustainable, it needs an active community of both users and developers. The Apache foundation provides mechanisms and processes to help support community engagement.
- While progress has been made in growing the Wookie community, there are still barriers like legal concerns and inexperience with development workflows that can prevent some developers from contributing. The project works to address these challenges and bring more diversity to its community.
This document discusses the differences between poor and rich countries. It argues that the wealth of a nation is not determined by its age, natural resources, or the race/ethnicity of its people. Rather, the key difference lies in the attitudes and principles embraced by a society, such as ethics, integrity, responsibility, respect for laws and others, work ethic, savings, punctuality. Poor countries remain poor because their people and culture generally lack these functional principles of wealthier nations. The document encourages sharing the message to inspire reflection and promote positive change.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help alleviate symptoms of mental illness and boost overall mental well-being.
Yoga philosophy emphasizes self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation and empathy, which are key components of emotional intelligence. Yoga practices like chitta-prasadana, kriyayoga and astangayoga help you develop these skills.
