Taye Tolera Balcha has been appointed by the Prime of Ethiopia as Director General of the Armauer Hansen Research Institute in June 2016. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Special Advisor and Head of Office the State Minister of Health. He has also worked at various levels of senior leadership in the Oromia region, including as Deputy Head of the Regional Health Bureau, researcher, hospital Medical Director and clinician. Taye obtained his PhD degree in Epidemiology from Lund University, Sweden in 2015. He wrote his dissertation on improved methods of TB diagnosis among HIV-positive individuals.
