My main area of expertise and experience as a community development specialist and medical anthropologist is in the area of interactions between cultures. My early research experience was with colonial impacts on colonised people, including the development of separate cultural groups by Eurasians in Singapore and Malaysia, then later the impact of colonial law and bureaucracy on the lives of Pitjantjatjara people in Central Australia.
