My reason for returning to school for my masters:
As I left college, BA in hand, I walked through the doors of the Iowa Department of Corrections and began working towards my goal of becoming a correctional counselor, or, as I believed whole-heartedly back then, to save the world! I believed that every day was a new opportunity to make better choices, and if I treated people they way they wanted to be treated, they would naturally reciprocate and go forth and do good. It didn’t take long for me to realize that believing people would intrinsically want to be better just because I expected them to be, was naïve at best. I was not cut out for the dismal walls of prison work.
