He was the first fellow of NTT Data research and development headquarters. He was previously responsible for the research projects on the systems science for knowledge innovation. He was also engaged in the development of network based smart card environment and distributed application development platforms in NTT research laboratories. His research interests include e-Commerce, distributed information systems, requirements engineering, and ubiquitous computing. He joined NTT in 1979. Dr. Yamamoto moved NTT Data Corporation in 2002.
