Working on non-invasive measurements of volatile organic compounds which have the potential for in-community therapeutic measurements, and of special interest are measurements based on breath samples. Through the monitoring of breath profiles, the research will seek to establish and characterise correlations in the perturbations to breath VOC profiles that arise from early stages of respiratory and/or cancer diseases. Advanced training in hyphenated mass spectrometry, multi-variate data analysis and optimisation will form the basis of an ethically approved panel study to establish the strength and extent of metabolic coupling between the severity of the disease with respect to breath.
