Media General centralized editing functions across multiple newspapers to gain efficiencies and preserve journalism resources. Consolidated Editing Centers (CECs) were established in three locations to produce pages once for multiple newspapers using a larger pool of editors and designers. While story selection remains local, copy editing and proofreading is done at the CECs. Centralization has allowed for more content generation and collaboration across newspapers as editors learn from each other. The changes have reconsidered workflows and appear to be working effectively.
