I am a native San Franciscan and was raised in a neighborhood teeming with big backyards and adventurous children. My appreciation of nature was cultivated during solo summer walks in the pine forests of Lake Tahoe. When I was six, I self-published my first poetry book,聽a parchment scroll tied with red ribbon.聽I attended University of California at Berkeley and San Francisco State University in the late 1970s and early 80s, taking what I intended to be a short sabbatical to write a novel before senior year.
