India has a population of over 1.2 billion people and an area of 3.3 million square kilometers. New Delhi is the capital city. Some key facts about India are that chess originated there, snake and ladder was invented by an Indian king, it is the oldest civilization in the world, and the largest English speaking country. Cows are considered sacred in India. The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan over 20 years to honor his wife after her death and is one of the seven wonders of the world. Bollywood produces around 1000 films per year, twice as many as Hollywood. Diwali is the festival of lights celebrated in November where houses are lit with lamps and candles.
