About
Arlene Hache is well known across the North as an Advocate of social change. She led a 6-day sit-in at the Crown Attorney's Office in Yellowknife demanding a public meeting to discuss the impact of plea bargaining in a sexual assault conviction. She stood in the gallery of the Legislature of the NWT and turned her back on the opening speech of the Premier for his stance on compensating residential schools students who had been sexually abused. Most recently Hache worked with an Aboriginal woman who won the 1st judgement against Canada for prejudice and discrimination from the United Nations.
Hache was awarded the Order of Canada in 2009 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal
