Turner Storm Shelter
FEMA 361 With the help of the National Storm Shelter Association ,Fema wrote a new criteria with the theme of Near Absolute Hurricane Protection . This new criteria requires the most stringent testing of hurricane shutters known.
FEMA 361 FEMA 361 criteria increased missile speeds by 20 % from the existing ICC 500 testing protocol.
FEMA 361 The Impact speeds are based on a 3 second wind gust . This gust will propel a 9 LB 2x4 to 50% of the wind speed.
FEMA 361 Miami/ Dade large missile impact test uses a set speed of 50 ft per second (approximately 34MPH) .
FEMA 361 The FEMA 361 criteria does not allow penetration of the shutter and requires the missile not to deflect into the protected opening.
9Lb 2x4 impacted at 112.5 MPH at testing lab Image ID: wea00405, NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) Collection Location: Puerto Rico Photo Date: September 13, 1928
9 LB 2x4 on return bounce Missile speed 131MPH during in house test
FEMA 361 With the FEMA 361 criteria, openings will be completely protected and functional after the storm.
FEMA 361 In addition the FEMA 361 criteria increased all wind zones by 40 Miles per hour
FEMA 361 This additional increase is based on a 1 in 1000 year model.

Extreme Shutter Systems 200 The Extreme Shutter Systems 200 is designed and tested meeting the FEMA 361 criteria of wind zones of 220 MPH
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 The pressure testing matches a F-3 tornado wind speeds.
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 Miami / Dade hurricane category 5 wind speeds of 155 MPH do not meet any hurricane standards of FEMA 361.
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 The Extreme Shutter Systems 200 was impacted with a 9# 2x4 @ 112.5 mph
112.5 MPH Impact 9lb 2x4 O Missile impacts Corner @ 112.5 MPH
112.5 MPH Impact 9lb 2x4 9 ft Missile bends to 5 ft length @ 112.5 MPH
2x4 explodes on Impact @ 112.5 MPH
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 The deflection (5.75) of the impacts did not exceed the 6 inch wide storm bar.
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 With Extreme Shutter Systems 200 ,debris is not likely impact into doors, forcing them open or damaging them permently closed .
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 With Extreme Shutter Systems 200 ,debris is not likely impact into doors, forcing them open or damaging them permently closed . Other shutters may protect the opening from over pressurization, but will allow the door to become nonfunctional.
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 If the shutter does not meet the FEMA 361 criteria , debris is more likely to pass through and damage the door or window it is protecting and place occupants of the structure at great risk
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 If fire truck bay doors are damaged, the fireman will need to tear the doors down.
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 If fire truck bay doors are damaged, the fireman will need to tear the doors down. This will use precious time and leave the station vulnerable (maybe for months) until replacement doors and installation is available .
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 Miami / Dade large missile protocol does not meet the FEMA 361 criteria for missile speed.
Extreme Shutter Systems 200 The two sided mounting systems were tested to cover spans of 14
