- 4. Least Cost Method : Method used to obtain the initial feasible solution for the transportation problem. Here, the allocation begins with the cell which has the minimum cost. The lower cost cell are chosen over the higher-cost cell with the objective to have the least cost of transportation. The Least Cost Method is more optimal results than the North-west Corner method.

- 10. Now we just multiply the cost of the cell with their respective allocated values and add all of them to get the basic solution : (300 * 1) + (250 * 2) + (150 * 5) + (50 * 3) + (250 * 3) + (200 * 2) = 2850
- 11. VOGELS APPROXIMATION METHOD (VAM METHOD) : The Vogels Approximation Method is an improved version of the least Cost Method. VAM is an iterative procedure calculated to find out the initial feasible solution of the transportation problem. Vogels Approximation Method is also called as Penalty Method because the difference costs chosen are nothing but the penalties of not choosing the least cost routes.

- 21. COMPARISON BETWEEN NWCR vs LCM vs VAM Northwest corner method (NWCM) - This method gives quick solution because it take short computation time. We get bad solution because solution is very far from optimal solution. Least cost method (LCM) - Least cost method are used to obtain the shortest route, Take less computation time than Vogels approximation method. It gives the best initial feasible solution which is nearer to the optimal solution. Vogels approximation method (VAM) - Vogels approximation methods is slow because computations take long time. It gives the best initial feasible solution which is nearer to the optimal solution. The cost of transportation with Vogels approximation method and Least cost method is less than northwest corner method.
