This document summarizes trends in women's beauty from the 1920s to the present across makeup, hair, and body type. Each decade is examined, from the short bobbed hairstyles and boyish figures of flappers in the 1920s influenced by cinema, to the fuller figures, natural looks, and long hair of the 1970s counterculture movement. Recent decades saw a focus on fitness and thinness along with colorful makeup and intentionally messy hair in the 1980s, and mineral makeup and straight or curly long hair from the 2000s onward. Resources on the history of beauty standards are also provided.
