One of the perks of being a ghostwriter is that I am able to get under your skin, into your head, and write down what you're feeling. I have found this ability to be invaluable, as I tell others' stories. I can take 'grit' and turn it into 'compelling material'. Having a client say, "I couldn't stop turning the pages; I wanted to know what happened next", and replying, "But you know what happened next, because it's your story. I just wrote what you told me" - is incredibly amazing. My clientèle is varied - from the war veteran, who wants his memories recorded; to the (former) public service official, who wants his own side of the story put across; to the battle-weary corporate exec or...
