I graduated in Biology by the University of Aveiro (UA) in 1996 and completed my PhD degree in Biology at UA in collaboration with the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra in 2002.
During my PhD, I gained experience on enzyme functional and structural characterisation. Later on, my research expanded to the proteome of microorganisms.
Nowadays I am interested in the interaction between pathogenic microorganisms with their hosts and the environment. The molecular events involved in microorganism response to environmental challenges or to host contact are the main focus of my investigation.
