I believe in using good science to tackle the real-world problems challenging agriculture and the environment. My research focuses on how various soil functions affect and support agriculture and the surrounding environment and this has now evolved to investigating the role of Soil Security in addressing some of the global challenges of food, energy, water and security, as well as, maintain biodiversity, and ecosystem services. I have developed protocols for assessing soil function using soil structure, the intrinsic energy of soil aggregates and modelling the relationship between the soil's architecture, soil carbon and soil biology.
