I argue that the aesthetics of Weird literature is more serviceable as a model for our relationship to the speculative posthuman than any totalizing conception of agency or interpretation.
Mystique is a mutant shapeshifter who can transform her appearance at will. As a member of both the Brotherhood of Mutants and X-Men, she has played the role of mercenary, model, and government operative over the years. With abilities like shapeshifting, increased healing, and immunity to poisons, Mystique is a highly skilled fighter and spy whose true identity has largely remained a mystery even to her closest associates.
This document discusses potential threats to humanity and ways to enhance and adapt humans to survive extinction events or undesirable futures. It explores enhancing cognition, physical abilities, and genetics. Some examples discussed are increasing intelligence, memory, health span and life span through drugs or genetic selection. Physical enhancements discussed include prosthetics, transhumanism, and modifying bodies through genetics. Enhancing the mind through nootropics or uploading consciousness to computers is also examined. The talk addresses using technology and design to increase human resilience and adaptability beyond natural human limits to survive potential existential threats.
Conceptual framing for educational research through Deleuze and GuattariDavid R Cole
油
This presentation will address the issue of conceptual framing for educational research through the philosophy of Deleuze & Guattari. The picture of what this means is complicated by the fact that in their combined texts, Deleuze and Guattari present different notions of conceptual framing. In their final joint text, What is Philosophy? conceptual framing appears in the context of concept creation, and helps with the analysis of western philosophy through concepts such as geophilosophy. In their joint texts on Capitalism and Schizophrenia, concepts are aligned with pre-personal and individualising flows that pass through any context. This presentation will make sense of the disparate deployment of concepts in the work of Deleuze & Guattari to aid clear conceptual work in the growing international field of educational research inspired by their philosophy.
The document discusses the origins and evolution of posthumanism from the 1940s cybernetics movement. It explores how developments in biology and technology could enhance and extend human capabilities. However, it also notes threats around how technology may undermine human values and control. The document calls for more research on posthumanism to understand how technology shapes human existence and to prepare for potential impacts on law, environments, and what it means to be human.
Performance art as posthumanist means of expression - performing the liminal ...margitafx
油
The document discusses posthumanism and performance art as a techno-cultural avant-garde. It explores how performance art has dealt with posthumanist topics like identity, technology, and blurred boundaries between human and machine. Several examples of performances are provided that have manipulated the body, explored human-technology hybrids, queer and ethnotechno identities, and companion species relationships between human and non-human. The document suggests performance art is a liminal field located at the intersection of science, technology, and art that has been used to transgress social categories and norms through the body.

Humanism, Transhumanism and Posthumanism
The Humanist and the transhumanist propose different methods for cultivating human capacities. The transhumanists claims that traditional techniques favoured by the humanist run up against the limits of our biology. She believes that prospective technologies could further the humanist cause by improving our nature. However, the transhumanist faces a difficulty. Her policies could produce posthumans. Evaluating posthuman lives might be impossible for us. But discounting them is not an option because she will share responsibility for their creation. I argue that one way through this impasse is for the transhumanist to produce posthumans or to become posthuman.
This document discusses Kant, Rawls, and Sandel regarding liberalism and communitarianism. It summarizes:
1) Kant's deontological ethics which argues that we should obey the categorical imperative out of duty alone in order to express autonomy and regard persons as ends in themselves.
2) Rawls draws analogies to Kant by arguing that principles derived from his original position are universal and regard persons as free and equal rational beings. Justice also takes priority over good, as with Kant.
3) Sandel critiques Rawls for requiring an "unencumbered subject" that is too thin to support the moral values of Rawlsian liberalism like autonomy.
"The Disconnection thesis": delivered at Dublin City University, 23 October 2011.
In his 1993 article The Coming Technological Singularity: How to survive in the posthuman era the computer scientist Virnor Vinge speculated that developments in artificial intelligence might reach a point where improvements in machine intelligence result in smart AIs producing ever-smarter AIs. According to Vinge the singularity, as he called this threshold of recursive self-improvement, would be a transcendental event transforming life on Earth in ways that unaugmented humans are not equipped to envisage.
In this paper I argue Vinges idea of a technologically led intelligence explosion is philosophically important because it requires us to consider the prospect of a posthuman condition succeeding the human one. What is the humanity to which the posthuman is post? Does the possibility of a posthumanity presuppose that there is a human essence, or is there some other way of conceiving the human-posthuman difference?
I argue that the difference should be conceived as a historically emergent disconnection between individuals, not in terms of the presence or lack of essential properties. I also suggest that these individuals should not be conceived in narrow biological terms but in wide terms permitting biological, cultural and technological relations of descent between human and posthuman.
Finally, I consider the ethical implications of this metaphysics of the posthuman. If, as I claim, the posthuman difference is not one between kinds but between individuals, we cannot specify its nature a priori but only a posteriori. Thus the only way to evaluate the posthuman condition would be to witness the emergence of posthumans. The implications of this are somewhat paradoxical. We are not currently in a position to evaluate the posthuman condition. Since there are no posthumans, the condition of posthumanity is not defined. However, posthumans could result from some iteration of our current technical activity, so we have an interest in understanding what they might be like. It follows that we have an interest in making or becoming posthumans.

This presentation is related to the brief History of Kashmir (Part-I) with special reference to Karkota Dynasty. In the seventh century a person named Durlabhvardhan founded the Karkot dynasty in Kashmir. He was a functionary of Baladitya, the last king of the Gonanda dynasty. This dynasty ruled Kashmir before the Karkot dynasty. He was a powerful king. Huansang tells us that in his time Taxila, Singhpur, Ursha, Punch and Rajputana were parts of the Kashmir state.

ABSTRACT: I give an introductory discussion of two key philosophical controversies in statistics in relation to todays "replication crisis" in science: the role of probability, and the nature of evidence, in error-prone inference. I begin with a simple principle: We dont have evidence for a claim C if little, if anything, has been done that would have found C false (or specifically flawed), even if it is. Along the way, Ill sprinkle in some autobiographical reflections.
