Dirk W. Meijer (1956) holds a M.D. in medicine, a Ph.D. in Experimental Surgery and a M.Sc. in epidemiology and bio-statistics. As a medical student he was already involved in Experimental Surgery.
He was an assistant professor in the department of experimental surgery at the University of Amsterdam. He was involved in the development, pre-clinical, and clinical evaluation of surgical techniques and medical devices.
In 1992 he defended his Thesis on the continent ileostomy.
He is co-founder of the SEHOS Congress for young Residents, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012.
