I was raised in a homogeneuos suburb in WBL. I didn't see a Black person til I was in 7th grade. I wanted to be an evangelist in childhood and later a civil rights leader. The closest I came was to attend an all Black college in the South (NCCU) in 1980. I was the only white living on campus. I later worked in public housing in Virginia from 85-86. I also started my own anti racism non profit in Stoughton, WIsc. and got death threats from the KKK in 1992. In h.s., I was an accomplished runner and went from 5th on the team my jr. year to 5th in the state. I won the Indoor State Mile my senior year and was 5th in Track. Our team won State Cross Country.
