The author argues that more gun legislation is needed based on three articles. The first article shows a decline in crime from 1993-2001 due to increased gun laws. However, more recent mass shootings like in Colorado prove this is not enough. The second article discusses the Colorado movie theater shooting that killed 12 people. The third article describes an accidental shooting of a child who rang the wrong doorbell, indicating guns in homes are not safe even for protection. The author believes more gun laws could prevent crimes, deaths, and accidental shootings, creating a safer future.

More legislation on guns
I believe that there should be more legislation on guns. I believe this because of all the bad things
that guns have done and caused such a public uproar. I will explain my reasoning and use the fallowing
three articles to prove my point. The three articles are; The Production of Criminal
Violence in America: Is Strict Gun Control the Solution?, The Colorado tragedy should spur Americans
to push for more gun control and Guns in the Household.
I believe that the use of firearms in criminal acts are to high. I believe this is possible because
people are able to go out and purchase fire arms and not have to explain or show proof of what they are
going to use them for. In the article The Production of Criminal Violence in America: Is Strict Gun
Control the Solution there is a chart showing the decline in crime rates from 1993 to 2001. This
was possible because of the advancement towards more legislation on guns but as we can see
today that was not enough.
There are innocent people that have been shot and killed more recently, and not one or
two people. A perfect example of this is explained in a news article The Colorado tragedy should
spur Americans to push for more gun control. This article is about how there was a mass
shooting in Colorado at a movie theater. This shooting killed twelve people and wounded 58
others. This is not what the founding fathers would have wanted and the government needs to
take action.
I also believe that guns should not be allowed in households just for protection purposes and a
perfect example was written in a article called Guns In The Household. This article reflects on when
two children where looking for a Halloween party and stumbled across the wrong house and rang
the doorbell, and what happened. One of the children got shot, this was because of the
homeowner thinking that they where intruders and instantly got there gun and shot the child. It
is sad to see that a child's life was lost because people think that guns are safe to have for
defensive purposes. There was even a study by Kellermann and his colleagues that proved that

More legislation on guns
there was no protective benefits of owning a gun in your home.
These incidents can be prevented in the future if everyone agrees that there should be more
legislation on guns. There would be less crimes and deaths caused by guns. There would be less
shootings of innocent people. Also there would be less deaths in the homes caused by accidental
shooting. Ultimately People would feel safer and it would provide a safer future for our family and kids.
