▪ Izmir is the third largest city of Turkey.
4,500,000 people live in Izmir.
▪ An important commercial port
in the Mediterranean Region.
▪ One of the leading cities in terms
of economy, history and socio-culture.
▪ Touristic attractions.
Izmir has experienced disasters throughout history. After the 1999 Marmara Earthquake,
the ground of the Izmir city was examined in the context of the RADIUS project.
The durability of the buildings has been evaluated as well.
Then, an earthquake scenario prepared in the computer environment, the amount of
damage to the buildings on this ground was calculated. Ultimately, Bayrakli district was
determined as the most dangerous area. The same area for the latest earthquake.
(Bayrakli district)
